In May 2023, the 46-year-old launched a community fridge initiative outside her two-room flat, offering free food such as vegetables, frozen meat, and seafood to those in need. Since then, around 200 families with school-going children have benefited from this initiative.

Through her motto, “More We, Less Me,” she has transformed lives with the Community Fridge initiative, bringing free food and hope to needy neighbours.

In Marlina’s own words-

In a world where food insecurity is an ongoing challenge, Marlina’s Fridge of Hope stands as a beacon of support for families in need. This community fridge initiative aims to provide accessible, balanced meals to those facing hardship, fostering a spirit of generosity and togetherness.

Mission and Vision

The mission of Marlina’s Fridge of Hope is simple: to alleviate hunger and reduce food waste in our community. By creating a safe and welcoming space for people to share and access food, we envision a community where everyone has enough to eat and where neighbours support each other.

How It Works

Marlina’s Fridge is stocked with a variety of food items, including frozen seafoods, canned goods, and non-perishable items, all donated by external funders. The fridge is open to families with school going children in need, allowing families to take what they require without judgment or barriers.

Community Impact

  • Supporting Families: By providing easy access to food, we aim to relieve some of the financial burdens that struggling families face.
  • Reducing Waste: Encouraging individuals to share surplus food helps minimize waste and promotes sustainable practices.
  • Building Connections: The fridge serves as a community hub, fostering relationships among neighbors and encouraging a culture of sharing and support.

Get Involved

We invite you to be a part of Marlina’s Fridge of Hope! Here’s how you can contribute:

  • Donate Food: Fresh produce and shelf-stable items are always needed.
  • Volunteer: Help with organizing, stocking, or spreading the word about the fridge.
  • Spread the Word: Share our initiative with friends, family, and on social media to reach those who might benefit.

Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those around us. Marlina’s Fridge of Hope is more than just a fridge; it’s a symbol of compassion, community, and the belief that together we can overcome challenges. Let’s work hand in hand to bring hope and relief to families in need!
